What Can I Expect in Laser Cataract Surgery Recovery?

RecoveryA major concern for those undergoing laser cataract surgery is what the recovery period will be like following their procedure. While the healing process varies according to each person, recovery is usually quick. The advanced nature of this procedure, which utilizes the LenSx® femtosecond laser, requires less energy to remove the cataract which can reduce trauma to the eye, resulting in a faster recovery.

Patients can typically see improvement in their vision within the first 24 hours after surgery. As the treated eyes begin to heal, it is normal to experience mild discomfort, though this should fade over the first couple days. Itching and sensitivity to light and touch may also occur. Most patients are able to resume their normal routine within one to two days post-operatively. To aid in the healing process and help prevent infection, our surgeons may recommend the use of specialty eye drops.

Since laser cataract surgery is a form of surgery, complications can occur, though they are rare. Follow-up visits will be scheduled so our surgeons can monitor progress and to ensure the patient is healing properly.
