Dr. Andrew Kolker is a board-certified comprehensive ophthalmologist specializing in cataracts and glaucoma, both medical and surgical, with over a decade of experience serving patients throughout the DMV. Prior to joining the Eye Doctors of Washington (EDOW), Dr. Kolker was in private practice in Clinton, Maryland, where he treated an extensive range of eye conditions, including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and difficult cases in need of a second opinion. He was voted the Top Ophthalmologist in all of Southern Maryland by Southern Maryland News 2023 Best Of The Best Community Choice Awards.
Dr. Kolker has extensive experience with state-of-the-art intraocular lenses (IOLs), including astigmatic-correcting (toric), extended depth of focus, and multifocal IOLs. In addition, Dr. Kolker implements the use of minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), including the iStent and the OMNI. Dr. Kolker’s surgical expertise also includes the regular use of laser technology, such as selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT), YAG Capsulotomy, and YAG Peripheral Iridotomy.
After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude, Dr. Kolker went on to earn his post-baccalaureate pre-medical degree from Johns Hopkins University and his medical degree from Tel Aviv University. After finishing his intern year at Maryland General Hospital in Baltimore, Dr. Kolker completed his residency at The George Washington University, where he served as Chief Resident. He is the founder of the DMV area’s Young Ophthalmology Society (YOSO) and is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Kolker has published and contributed to numerous articles in prestigious journals and has presented his work at national and international conferences. He is a second-generation ophthalmologist and, along with his father, Richard, co-wrote the acclaimed book, “Subjective Refraction and Prescribing Glasses: The Number One (or Number Two) Guide to Practical Techniques and Principles.”
When not caring for patients, Dr. Kolker spends time playing the drums, guitar, piano, tennis, and writing creatively. He enjoys spending time with his beautiful wife and their two children.
